Terms of use
The agreement, in plain words
Short, because it can be. Installing or using Unlost means you accept what is on this page. If you don't, don't install it — and if you already have, uninstalling it from Settings ends the arrangement with nothing owed.
What you get
Unlost is free and licensed to you, not sold. You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use the app on computers you own or control. Scanning, previewing and recovering are all free — every drive, every file, every version 1.x, with no file cap, no trial period and nothing to unlock.
The app is free to use, not free to resell. You may not sell it, and you may not distribute it repackaged, modified or bundled with other software. You may not remove or alter notices in the app, and you may not reverse-engineer it except to the extent that the law where you live says you may regardless of this paragraph.
No guarantee that your files come back
Recovery is never guaranteed — not by Unlost and not by any other tool or service, at any price. Whether a deleted file can be read again depends entirely on the state of the drive: on whether new data has already landed on the clusters it occupied, on whether an SSD has cleared them, on whether the hardware is failing. Those things happened before you opened Unlost, and no software can undo them.
This is why the app shows you the state of the drive before it recovers anything. Run a scan, look at what Unlost reports it can bring back and at which stretches of each file survived, and decide after that. Nothing is claimed about an outcome you have not already seen described.
Warranty
Unlost is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, that includes any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. It is not warranted that the app will be free of defects, that it will run without interruption, or that any particular file, drive, file system or device will be supported or recovered.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, and consumer protection law may give you rights that no agreement can take away. Nothing here limits those rights.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for lost data, lost files, lost profits, lost time, business interruption, or any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising out of the use of, or inability to use, Unlost — even if the possibility of them was known.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the smallest amount the law allows. Unlost is supplied free of charge, so nothing was paid for it and nothing is owed back.
Your side of it
- Use Unlost only on drives you own or have permission to read. Recovering someone else's data without their consent may be a crime where you live; that is on you, not on the tool.
- Install Unlost onto a drive other than the one you lost files from, and save recovered files elsewhere too. The app enforces the second part; the first part is yours to get right.
- If a drive is physically failing — clicking, overheating, appearing and disappearing — stop and talk to a data recovery lab. Continuing to run software against it can cost you the files.
- Keep your own backups. A recovery tool is what you reach for when a backup was missing, not a replacement for one.
What it costs
Nothing. There is no price, no subscription, no paid tier and no in-app purchase, which is why this page has no payment or refund terms to give you. Downloading the app from tryunlost.com is the whole transaction.
If anyone ever asks you to pay for Unlost, or sells you a key for it, that is not us. Tell us at [email protected].
Updates and changes
Updates are free, like the rest of it. Unlost does not check for updates, so new versions are something you collect from this site when you want them. If a later version adds an update check, it will be optional and Privacy will describe it before that version ships.
These terms may change for future releases. The version that applies to you is the one published when you downloaded the app; the date at the top of this page shows when the current text was written.
Ending it
You can stop using Unlost at any time by uninstalling it from Settings. The licence ends if you breach these terms — for example by selling the app or redistributing a modified copy of it. Provisions that by their nature should survive, such as the warranty and liability sections, survive.
